SCANDINAVIAN FOLK ART AT MINNESOTA STATE FAIR ( 2006 )
'Alive and Well: Scandinavian Folk Art by Contemporary Midwest Artisans'
Don't miss the woodcarving, carved
furniture, decorative painting,
ceramics and jewelry created by world-class, living artists who
share a
love for Scandinavian tradition. This group has exhibited together
throughout the United States as well as in Norway, in shows organized
by
the acclaimed Vesterheim Museum of Decorah, Iowa.
Their work represents the Vesterheim
school since all these artists
regularly teach, exhibit and/or take classes at Vesterheim. Even
though
their hometowns are scattered throughout Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin,
they try to gather at least 2-3 times per year to exhibit and
demonstrate
their work, share ideas enjoy each other's company.
'Alive and Well,' a feast
for the eye the whole family can enjoy, runs
from August 25 through September 5, 2006
"The extraordinary organic
vigor in much of Norway's folk carving and folk
painting is a welcome antidote to modern life." ( Marion Nelson, Norwegian Folk
Art, 'The Migration of a Tradition'.)
